Anthropocene

A Planet Defined by Plastic

Due to the negative impact that humanity has had on the Earth in the past 100 years, we may have forced it into a new geological age; The Anthropocene. One of the main reasons for this is plastic, specifically the millions of tonnes produced annually that end up in our oceans. Plastic is very hard to break down and when it does it's toxic. The mark that the substance will leave on our planet is irreversible.

Welcome to Generation Anthropocene: A Planet defined by plastic is a ‘marching exhibition’ whereby members of the public can get involved in spreading the word about the impact ocean plastics are really having.

The aesthetic of the artworks take inspiration from dystopia, visualising the facts in a more conceptual way. The exhibition aims to identify that the root of the problem is the purchase of plastic in the first place and addresses that if you stop buying it, they will have to stop selling it and in turn hopefully moving forward into a more circular economy with no waste product.
